Lens was tested in Aperture UK
Obviously this lens is meant to be used at open aperture in low ligt conditions or for achieving shallow depth of field. And for this purpose it works perfectly. Important notice: this lens is no longer repaired by Canon service.
For apertures 2.8 and above the Canon EF 200mm f/2.8L USM (II) can save you a lot of money and it's also lighter and smaller (and much less noticeable). The new Canon EF 200mm f/2.0L IS USM is wonderfull choice as its lighter than f/1.8 version, offers weather sealing, faster AF and IS (but also costs a lot more). The alternative is also the new Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM II which is an exceptional lens and it is considered to be the best Canon zoom so far (October 2010).
