During past 2 months I spend some time with photography of one of the most important animal models in biology - Drosophila melanogaster. Fruit fly has been used in genetics for more than 100 years, originaly chosen by Thomas Hunt Morgan.
In Czech republic, there is only several laboratories, which use Drosophila as model for research. One of them is lab of Dr. Michal Zurovec from Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia and Academy of Science of Czech Republic. Co-operation with Dr. Zurovec allowed creation of these photos.
Female of fruit fly is only about 2.5mm in size (male is even smaller) and they usualy move rapidly what makes them quite difficult objects for photography.
Some of photos and videos of Drosophila I took in the spring 2010 were used in programme of Czech televison Nova in the link bellow (in Czech).
